Pablo Picasso and Mrs. Cooper's Class

Currently, in the Southwest Art Room, all the grades are learning about (or about to start learning about) the famous artist Pablo Picasso!  Second grade was the first group to begin learning about   Mr. Picasso and thus are the first ones wrapping up their Picasso inspired project!

Second grade took a closer look at Picasso's Cubist portraits and the colors & shapes he used to make those unusual looking portraits!  The creative results of the second graders are amazing!

Here's Mrs. Cooper's class in action!

Mrs. Hussung's Class Earned a Fun Day!

It's that time of year when classes all begin to earn their very first fun day!  I love this time of year, not only because it means my students have been working hard to live the art room motto, but because it gives me a chance to teach lessons that normally wouldn't fit into my lesson plans because I couldn't do it with an entire grade!

Mrs. Hussung's class entrusted their fun day with me!  I call this the "Ms. Webb Surprise Fun Day" it's probably my favorite thing ever since it means I get to do whatever kind of project I want with them!!!

SO, we decide to explore primary colors in a way we had never explored primary colors before...with our FEET!  That's right parents, we wrapped our feet in bubble wrap (exploring texture too, we had to keep it educational!), and then painted on large pieces of paper mixing the primary colors to create secondary colors!

WE HAD A BLAST!!!

Mrs. Slauter's Class earns their first fun day!

Hooray for Mrs. Slauter's class earning their first fun day!  Students typically request a specific activity for their fun day, but Mrs. Slauter's brave class requested that I SURPRISE them with a fun activity.

So, inspired by the recent change in weather and the coming of fall harvest I decided we would paint pumpkins abstractly!  Students interpreted this many ways:  some choose patterns while others just played with brush stroke and the combining of colors.  No matter their choice, they all turned out wonderfully unique!  I LOVE THEM!

Check out the students in action!

Super focused!

I love how this one looks like marbled paper!
