Kindergarten Learns to Draw Cats!

In Kindergarten for the last few weeks we've been working on shapes and how to see shapes in the objects we wish to draw.  After reading Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses the kinders then learned how to find the shapes they saw in Pete.  They learned that cats could be drawn mostly with triangles.  The results are creative and dare I say it: adorable.

Adventures in Kindergarten Art Class

Most of first semester in kindergarten was spent on the very basics of Art:  drawing lines, coloring, and cutting.  However, second semester has been far more exciting!

I read, and sang ;) Pete the Cat to the kids and then we made our very own sneaker wearing cats!

We used recycled toilet paper rolls to be the cat's body, colored them with color pencils, and then added little white sneakers!  Too cute!
In our most recent project we learned a little more about Art history and discovered the painting "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh.

Kinders used Construction Paper Crayons to draw their own "Starry Night"  I love how the crayons look like chalk on the paper!

We learned all about the curvy and dotted lines that Van Gogh used in all his paintings.

I love it when they're working so hard they can't help but stick their tongues out.
