Mrs. Slauter's Class earns their first fun day!

Hooray for Mrs. Slauter's class earning their first fun day!  Students typically request a specific activity for their fun day, but Mrs. Slauter's brave class requested that I SURPRISE them with a fun activity.

So, inspired by the recent change in weather and the coming of fall harvest I decided we would paint pumpkins abstractly!  Students interpreted this many ways:  some choose patterns while others just played with brush stroke and the combining of colors.  No matter their choice, they all turned out wonderfully unique!  I LOVE THEM!

Check out the students in action!

Super focused!

I love how this one looks like marbled paper!

Our little Architects!

First Grade learned about a career in Art this week: an architect!  We read the book Iggy Peck Architect, and talked about all the way buildings can be unique through their architecture!  It was also a great chance to review skills like: shape knowledge, cutting and gluing.  Enjoy!

EXPLOSION OF COLOR...and a scrap paper mess, but it's a good mess!  Means a lot of creativity happened today!

1st Grade Color Wheel Collage

1st Grade spent a lot of time working on their color wheel collage project!  Not only did students learn about the color wheel and how we figure which colors go where; but also, they learned about cutting, gluing, and assembling collages from magazine pages. They turned out adorable!  They got many compliments from visitors during their time on display.
