4th Grade Pop Art at the Administration Building

4th Grade has got a project up at the Greenwood Administration Building for the rest of February and the month of March!  Students were learning about the Pop Artist, Roy Lichtenstein.  Students took Lichtenstein's work as a jumping off point to create their own comic book inspired art.  They used elements like: Benday dots, onomatopoeias, and scenes from comic books.  The students got so creative with interpreting Lichtenstein's work in their own style that I had to share it publicly!

Great Work 4th Grade!!!

I just can't help myself!

I have to share more of these!

Mrs. Hannah's class just finished their submissions for the PTO AR T-Shirt Contest and I am BLOWN AWAY by the creativity I saw in this class!  They must have an amazing art teacher ;)  These are just a few of the awesome designs I saw from them: I am serious, PTO has a hard decision to make!

Mr. Harper's Class Earned a FUN DAY!

Fun Days really are some of the best days!  Not only are we celebrating the students' hard work during art class, but we're also getting to stretch our creativity in ways we don't normally have time to explore.  The students always get to pick their activity (as long as it somehow involves art!) and many classes have latched on to one of my favorite games "Exquisite Corpse."  In this game, the paper is folded into thirds and then one person draws the head, another the torso, and the last the legs; however, no one knows what the person before drew.  It's not until the end of the game when everyone unfolds their drawing that they see the silly creature they've made!  This art game was actually quite common amongst Surrealist artists because it would inspire them to create the unique characters that appeared in their paintings (Salvador Dali is one of the most famous Surrealists).

Enjoy the creativity and maybe play it at home one day!

PTO Accelerated Reader T-Shirt Contest

I've been working feverishly with my 3rd - 5th graders on a collaboration with our school's PTO.  The PTO graciously takes care of the awards and prizes that our students receive for earning points for reading books and taking quizzes on them.  The most coveted of the prizes being the AR T-Shirt!  When the PTO approached me about the students creating the design for the next shirt I LOVED the idea!  And the kids did too!  So we've spent the last couple weeks learning about Graphic Designers and how many of the everyday packages and logos we see were designed by artists.  Here are just a few of my favorites that have been turned in so far...and Mrs. Bates' class working diligently!  PTO will have a hard choice to make!

And I couldn't resist posting this one!  Mr. Corbin, this student thought that you should be on a t-shirt!  Our students love our new media aid so much!

Lichtenstein Inspired Portraits

Fourth Grade was inspired by the artwork of Pop Artist Roy Lichtenstein.  His larger than life paintings depicting comic book scenes were bold and dramatic!  Students worked very hard to recreate "benday dots" like you would see in a newspaper comic, and also were a main feature in Lichtenstein's work.  The students took the challenge head on and the results were fantastic!
