Mrs. Hussung's Class Earned a Fun Day!

It's that time of year when classes all begin to earn their very first fun day!  I love this time of year, not only because it means my students have been working hard to live the art room motto, but because it gives me a chance to teach lessons that normally wouldn't fit into my lesson plans because I couldn't do it with an entire grade!

Mrs. Hussung's class entrusted their fun day with me!  I call this the "Ms. Webb Surprise Fun Day" it's probably my favorite thing ever since it means I get to do whatever kind of project I want with them!!!

SO, we decide to explore primary colors in a way we had never explored primary colors before...with our FEET!  That's right parents, we wrapped our feet in bubble wrap (exploring texture too, we had to keep it educational!), and then painted on large pieces of paper mixing the primary colors to create secondary colors!

WE HAD A BLAST!!!

Mrs. Slauter's Class earns their first fun day!

Hooray for Mrs. Slauter's class earning their first fun day!  Students typically request a specific activity for their fun day, but Mrs. Slauter's brave class requested that I SURPRISE them with a fun activity.

So, inspired by the recent change in weather and the coming of fall harvest I decided we would paint pumpkins abstractly!  Students interpreted this many ways:  some choose patterns while others just played with brush stroke and the combining of colors.  No matter their choice, they all turned out wonderfully unique!  I LOVE THEM!

Check out the students in action!

Super focused!

I love how this one looks like marbled paper!

Mr. Harper's Class Earned a FUN DAY!

Fun Days really are some of the best days!  Not only are we celebrating the students' hard work during art class, but we're also getting to stretch our creativity in ways we don't normally have time to explore.  The students always get to pick their activity (as long as it somehow involves art!) and many classes have latched on to one of my favorite games "Exquisite Corpse."  In this game, the paper is folded into thirds and then one person draws the head, another the torso, and the last the legs; however, no one knows what the person before drew.  It's not until the end of the game when everyone unfolds their drawing that they see the silly creature they've made!  This art game was actually quite common amongst Surrealist artists because it would inspire them to create the unique characters that appeared in their paintings (Salvador Dali is one of the most famous Surrealists).

Enjoy the creativity and maybe play it at home one day!

Miss Thomas' Class Earned a Fun Day!!!

Miss Thomas' class earned another FUN DAY!  The students voted to build sculptures out of recycled supplies (since we've been talking about our Green Art Show quite a bit!), and they had a blast!  Watching creative minds at play is one of the most rewarding parts of my job!  Check out the kids at work and some of their unique creations!

This is supposed to be two people.

If I recall correctly this is a dragon!

FUN DAYS in the Art Room!

A few classes have already earned their Fun Day in the Art room!  Woo Hoo!!!  Classes can earn a Fun Day by earning 10 stickers on the sticker chart.  To get a sticker, classes must follow the 5 majors rules of the Art room during their class period.  These classes have been really living the motto while in the Art room!

Classes who have earned a Fun Day already:
Mrs. Haven's Class
Mrs. Habig's Class
Mr. Coffing's Class
Mrs. Longworth's Class
Mr. Whaley's Class

Most of the classes participated in a fun Art game called "Exquisite Corpse" which is a drawing game that involves a lot of mystery and three participants!  The first participant draws the head then passes the paper on to the next person to draw the torso (but they don't know what the head looks like), and finally, the third participant draws the legs and feet (but they don't know what the head OR the torso looks like!).  The results are usually pretty SILLY!  Enjoy!

I love hearing all the giggles after we open up the paper to see the final project!
